St. Matthew A.M.E. Church is committed to educating the community about Breast Cancer and the benefits of early detection on survival rates. As a faith based body, and more importantly a part of the A.M.E. Church, our responsibility is to provide education and resources to the community , empowering them to identify and address issues from a holistic–mind, body and spirit- perspective.
In 2003, Team Healing Hands began our partnership with Susan G. Komen Philadelphia. It was formed by a handful of dedicated women who raised about $500.00 that 1st year. Over the years, we have hosted both fundraising and educational events, designed to help fund breast cancer research and to fund the valuable resources needed to help those who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. To date we have raised over $20,000 for Susan G. Komen. Our activities have included “ The Team Healing Hands Men For The Cure Cook-off, the Pink Velvet Bake Sale, the Pink Boutique (where we sell donated Breast Cancer Awareness items) and our the Team Healing Hands Breast Cancer Awareness Health Fair.
Through our partnership with Susan G. Komen, Philadelphia, we provide access to valuable information and free mammograms to uninsured or underinsured women. We also, provide access to noted Oncologists and expert guest speakers to our community. It is for the lack of knowledge, that our people perish.
Team Healing Hands is committed to helping to “Finish This Fight” with God’s help and guidance .
